New LG 24MP88 HV-S
Hey what's up guys, Simon here. Today I shall review a little bit on the new LG 24MP88 HV-S monitor.
First thing is that it costs you around 17,300 INR (MRP) which can be brought down to a couple of bucks less through a coupon or discount voucher at amazon. So that means you can have it at 16,200 INR by retailers like Cloud tail. Which also has same day or next day delivery. Secondly let me tell you why did I chose this monitor because it has most accurate picture display and color calibration. Now that's a bang for the money feature (mostly).
Now, let's see the features of this monitor.
1) It's FHD 2) It's narrow bezels
3) Has HDMI support (2 ports, would you believe that?)
4) 1 aux cable, audio in and a power port
5) Super thin profile
6) Last and most important, it's maxx audio sound output (Yay!)
The moment you see the carton we're pretty much sure that there is a beast in thin profile waiting to be unboxed. Yeah I say beast mostly cos of MaxxAudio and HDMI stuffs. Once you open the box, there lies a bunch of stuffs that helps the beast to run. Mostly a power adapter, a VGA cable, color satisfaction certificate, and few leaflets about the product specification, warranty and on. When you uncover the Styrofoam slowly you can see a cover which has this beautiful monitor covered with black screen and rear being white in color. Also you can have a glimpse of ports and a serial number sticker so meticulously placed just above the power port. There is a thin plastic sheet sticking at the rear that just needs to be peeled of slowly to see the beauty. Next is that there is a cover having a power adapter and few screws for the stand. Couldn't wait for the moment to assemble the parts I did it so hastily and powered the monitor up. Once you see the monitor you'll be assured by the design, compact factor and also the display that your money spent is worth. Yes, you have my word that every buck you've spent is worthy. Now the real thing is that in order to get the full potential outta it you just need to use a HDMI cable (which is NOT supplied). Once you've plugged in the power adapter and HDMI you'll be amazed to see the picture quality.
The entire Monitor is nearly a bezel less design and it has superb color reproduction and more over it has silver in front and white at back. Now that's sweet. Moving on, once you're done connecting I recommend you google for LG 24MP88 HV-S driver. Well Indian site doesn't provide a good driver, although the drivers are in the CD which comes as part of the package I insist on downloading the latest ones from the US site. IF you're done with the download install drivers at first and later go for the on-screen control panel software. This on-screen control panel allows you to change the profile of the display, and has millions of options to change the gamma, brightness, contrast and more. Now you don't actually need to use the small mechanical button/capacitive button on your monitor. Most of the settings can be controlled through the panel.
Last one it is always good to check your monitor for warranty (mine comes with 3 years, limited) and a screen test (LED/LCD test). Screen test is recommended for the dead pixels. Just assume we've gotten a good one now.
You can google for the FHD videos or youtube can provide you with good quality videos. If you're good at torrenting you might wanna check high bit rate videos for the quality checking process.
Now coming for the review part.
Before this I'd Sony FHD monitor and Samsung HD monitor. I've never thought of LG would fill my cup of desires till now. Now's the moment for truth - Yes, LG has done a brilliant job on getting the good quality product to the Indian Market.
Display is awesome with narrow bezel, most part of the screen is always lit. Nearly zero dead pixels, no image distortion, heat seems to be dissipated in much easy way (this one never heats up!). The build and the design is good though stand could use some really good material to withstand the load of the monitor. It might seem good at first sight but later you might think that screen could fall with a small push (hey, it's my thought. I know no one does that but...). Apart from the stand most part of the assembly looks just fine (may be great). Just at the bottom-center you've a small lever/stick mostly made of plastic which can be actuated at any direction (can't pull it out though). This lever can help you to just set few features for the screen like low light response time, response time, super clarity stuffs and so... The monitor once it's powered through a press of the lever slowly lights up a small portion of LED lighting at the base and buzzes a low frequency sound (may be a small dramatic start). This sound isn't that loud but to the user you get to know that she's waking up (or he), I mean the monitor! Price for the monitor is little high which is available in United States at a cheaper value of 9,000 INR. I think most part the Indian value for this goes to the tax, well it's our duty to pay the duty, isn't it? This is also available at the LG stores (retail/Online) at a closer rate to 15,500 INR with some discounts. I have worked using this monitor for nearly like 2 weeks and I couldn't see a small hiccup. This definitely is a big bang for the money. I cannot say this is the best monitor out there in the Indian market but may be one the best FHD monitors.
If you like this just let me know through an email. Or if you need any assistance just drop me a mail so I can help you. May be this might come in handy if you've a thought of a monitor make-over or switch over (whatever)!
With Love, peace and respects, this is Simon.
