Greeting everyone,
Simon here.
Recently, I had an opportunity to use a note book from Asus. It is called Asus Zenbook 14. This is a laptop/notebook which has some really good features.
Asus has a good reputation in laptop segment, especially gaming laptops. I have used Asus Gaming laptop for few years. Since I wanted to take the work home, I thought I could make an investment on a laptop that is easy to carry and has all the features that makes it a power house.
Asus Zenbook 14 is a 14'' laptop with intel i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and nVidia 150 MX 2 GB graphics card. It has 512 GB SSD and facial recognition for quick logging in to windows.
I personally prefer finger print scanner than facial scanner, since it is less secure. However, Asus claims that it has IR - 3D sensor to securely read your facial patterns and update it when required. Kudos for Asus on this.
It has 1-USB 3.0 port, 1-USB 2.0, 1-HDMI port, a memory card reader and a USB type C 3.1 port. It has headphone jack and a Kensington lock port.
The body of the laptop is finished with Aluminum metal and weighs only 1.19 Kgs. It has full keyboard layout and function keys that can be converted to hotkeys.
The track-pad is good with few misses of taps in between and it has a feature to turn it as number pad just by tapping the right top corner. Though it looks like useful feature, believe me, it is a gimmick. Switching the pad on and off is little trickier than we think.
The keyboard is back-lit. It has 3 modes to make it bright depending on the lighting conditions.
The notebook also features a small hardware feature that lifts the laptop by a small length which allows the laptop to cool easily. The movement of lid lifts the laptop by an angle of 3 degrees.
According to me, since I have used it for a while, I personally feel this laptop is for those who need the notebook to be light weight and has some decent programming features. The windows 10 is a good addition and also the facial scanning works fast and good at normal lighting conditions. Sometimes, this feature can be irritable if you're outdoor and I recommend you to reassign the facial pattern. The laptop is cool when handling small tasks but gets really hot when it is throttled either by an app like Photoshop or simple movie player. I sometimes feel it less reliable when it heats up. The graphics card works good but for heavier apps it will drop down significantly. The keyboard is well lit by the LEDs, it has three modes to make it bright to brightest. It is quite useful at night. The book also has a feature to lift up the base by an angle of 3 degrees when it is opened. It makes sure that air flows freely under the laptop.
The Asus has put some bloatware and it sometimes open a little late than usual in an SSD. I personally see this as an issue because on my desktop the SSD works really good.
Overall, this laptop eases portability and is a small power house for the daily travelers and business people. This is ideal for those who uses internet with bit of photo editing. Video editing is a Nada.
Thanks, these are my initial reviews. Stay tuned for further reviews.
Until then,
With peace, love and respects.
Simon.
