Samsung S20 Ultra Pre-order: details, review and price

This is Simon writing a brief detail about Samsung's new S20 Ultra mobile phone.


It is quite early to talk about the recent release of Samsung’s new flagship mobile phone, S20 Ultra. I have seen the phone and the efforts of Samsung that has put into the new mobile device is great.

The S20 Ultra comes with 6.9-inch screen and has Samsung’s Amoled technology. It has 12 GB of RAM packed with liquid cooling. The screen is QHD+. The screen also comes with HDR 10+ compatibility. And the screen refresh rate comes at 60 Hz for QHD+ and 120 Hz for FHD setting.
S20 Ultra also features Samsung’s latest Exynos 990 Octa core processor (7nm+) with 128 GB base ROM. For regions like US it might be shipped with SD865 (7nm+) chipset. 

S20 Ultra also comes with high end camera system. 108 MP primary camera with phase detection, 48 MP OIS-telephoto lens, 12 MP Ultra-wide lens and VGA depth sensing camera. Front facing camera is supported by 40 MP sensor for better selfie photos. Camera sensors are upgraded for better night photography. The camera software is also supported by AI neural engine for better understanding of your photography. The phone also has a 100x zoom feature, which is capable to zoom up to 100 times. This feature uses some prism system/setup for the zooming capability.

The phone comes with IP68 certification which is dust and water resistant up to 1.5 mts for 30 mins.
It has 5000 mAh battery with smart battery management that can take you up to 2 days without juicing it up in between. The weight of the mobile is roughly around 222 g.

S20 Ultra also features on-screen fingerprint scanner which uses ultrasonic technology for better security.

Samsung has introduced 8K video recording option with S20 Ultra camera system. One can snap a photo in 8K video that is snapped at 33 MP.

Indian market users can get only 4G model also dubbed as LTE model. And countries like US, Canada will get 5G models.

In India, S20 Ultra comes with Cosmic Gray colour and 128 GB as the base model (for current pre order). However, there are different colours that may be available in the upcoming months.

For pre orders, there are bunch of gifts waiting. Firstly, the pre order gets a Damage/Liquid protection at half rate ie., 1999/- only instead of 4000/- and, they get the Samsung Buds+ for only 1999/- (only for S20+ & S20 Ultra it is 1999/- and for S20 it will be 2999/-). Samsung Buds+ costs around 11,999/- rupees only.

For selected users Samsung is sending special discount on clear view cover for S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. The price of the cover is said to be 3199/- and is discounted at a price of 699/-.
Hopefully, Samsung is looking at the Indian customers as its premium users.

Finally, the S20 is priced at 66,999/- and S20+ is at 73,999/- only. S20 Ultra is priced at 92,999/-

My two cents:
As a person who has interest in Gadgets, I would love to purchase S20 Ultra model since it has all the features and more importantly the camera set up is simply out of the ordinary. I wouldn't worry much about how the phone looks and how the module is designed (the rectangular design). The main performance element is the processor which is Exynos 990 Octa core. And the system also has 12 GB of RAM for all the games and apps. The phone also has expandable storage up to 1 TB which is huge. I really am happy with Samsung offering us expandable storage for the phone, however, I am deeply saddened at the same time that they offer hybrid SIM slot. This means you can either have 2 SIMs or use a SIM and a SD card. This is really an awkward situation for the 2 SIM card holders. I really wish Samsung would change the second SIM to e-SIM, so it can support SD card anyway.
The phone also features 100x zoom which may not be used by most people but it is an option to brag about. The phone camera is really something to brag about too. The phone has 108 MP main shooter that really captures most detailed picture or snaps. The Ultra wide lens will get you 123 degree of field view and telephoto lens will offer you 3x optical zoom and 10x of hybrid zoom.
Low light photography is really awesome when it comes to S20 series. The camera's depth sensor also works great.
The phone doesn't feel slow or dragging in any way due to its huge RAM setup. All apps work smoothly.
The screen is one of the worlds best screen out there in the market, as said by Display mate. The screen houses the state of the art OLED panel that offers crip pictures and also supports HDR 10+ for HDR contents.
The screen has 120 Hz screen refresh rate for this model. However, the catch is that 120Hz can only be activated at FHD screen setting. If you need to have QHD+ then the refresh rate switches to 60Hz.
Though it is priced high, it is flagship killer of 2020 for sure.
My conclusion is that Samsung has really worked well for the development of this mobile device along with flip model. However, it seems that there are bit few areas it could have worked more and made it to market. You know haste!

This is a phone to a person who can shell out money easily plus if he's a geek to brag about the new tech. If you're a commoner I guess S20 would suffice.
